Challenge Lab 04
October 2026
Something You Cannot See
Make a photograph of something you cannot see.
Photography begins with something visible.
A person, a place, an object. Light falling somewhere, or something in front of a camera.
This month, we want to see what happens when photography is asked to do something it seemingly cannot do.
Make a photograph of something you cannot see.
What that means is entirely up to you, we are deliberately not giving examples.
One image, that’s it.
Camera
Anything. Phone, film, digital, disposable, borrowed, broken.
Submission
One image only, your interpretation.

Challenge Lab is an ongoing photography experiment from Frame 1A. Each challenge begins with a single prompt and asks photographers to respond with one image.
Submitted photographs are presented together in the Challenge Lab archive on the Frame 1A website with photographer credit. There are no winners or selected images. The photographs remain the property of their makers.
Where the work goes from there is intentionally open. A Challenge Lab may eventually become an exhibition, a book, or take another form we haven't imagined yet. Part of the experiment is allowing the responses to help determine what comes next.
Notes
We are unable to provide individual guidance or interpretation of the prompt. There is no right answer. Use your creativity and respond however the prompt makes sense to you.
Submit one photograph by October 31, 2026 to frame1agallery@gmail.com .
Photographers retain copyright to their photographs and grant Frame 1A permission to present submitted work with full credit.
