Light in Motion

Rob Hamner

September 6 - 28, 2025

About

Light in Motion presents photographs by Rob Hamner made through intentional camera movement, using motion during exposure to transform familiar places into something less fixed.

The resulting images sit between recognition and abstraction. Architecture, landscape, light, and color remain present, but their forms are stretched, blurred, and reorganized by the movement of the camera.

Rather than using motion as an effect, Hamner uses it to interrupt the camera’s usual claim to precision. The photographs ask what remains when description gives way to sensation, and how a place can still be felt even as its recognizable structure begins to disappear.

About the Artist

Rob Hamner is a Bay Area photographer whose work explores movement, light, color, and abstraction through intentional camera movement and other photographic processes.

His practice is grounded in close observation and experimentation, using the camera not only to record what is in front of it, but to alter how that subject is perceived.
