Most days do not announce themselves as important.

We move through them surrounded by things we assume will still be there tomorrow: the light in a familiar room, someone waiting at a bus stop, an object left on a table, a particular street corner, a gesture, a shadow, a face.

Challenge Lab 01 began with a simple condition: make one photograph on March 1st.

Not the best photograph you could make. Not a photograph of something historically important. Just one image made with the knowledge that this particular day, in this particular form, would not happen again.

Today will never happen again. What did you see?

The challenge was about attention rather than occasion. What becomes worth photographing when the only thing making a moment significant is the fact that it is passing?

A person you see every day. A room before it changes. Something on the sidewalk. A commute. Weather moving across a window. An ordinary moment that might otherwise leave no record at all.

There was no requirement to explain why the photograph mattered. The photograph only had to say: this was here.

One day. One image.
