No. Registration is free and open to everyone, but Frame 1A has limited wall space. Participating artists will be selected through a random lottery after registration closes. A waitlist will be created at the same time.

Each selected artist may bring one unframed and unmatted, two-dimensional photographic print no larger than 11 × 14 inches.

Digital photography, film, cyanotype, instant photography, alternative processes and mixed media are welcome, as long as the work begins with a photograph.

No sculpture, frames, mats, glass or heavy mounting. Just one print. Frame 1A will provide materials used to attach work to the wall.

Yes, as long as the final work follows all exhibition requirements. You do not need to submit the exact image in advance.

Selected artists will enter the gallery in small groups and have a limited amount of time to install their work, so come ready to slap it up.

When it is your turn, you may choose any available location on the wall and respond to the photographs already installed. You may not move, cover or remove another artist’s work.

Prints larger than 11 × 14 inches, or work that is framed, matted, mounted under glass or otherwise outside the guidelines, cannot be installed. Please measure and prepare your work before arriving.

No. Each selected artist must arrive during their scheduled installation window and personally hang their own photograph. No one else may drop off or install the work on your behalf.

Yes. Participating artists will be included on an exhibition list published on the Frame 1A website. Because of the number of participants, individual social media tags and labels beside each photograph may not be possible.

Slap It Up is not organized as a sales exhibition, and Frame 1A is a viewing space. We do not process artwork sales and will not list prices for this event.

However, participating artists may choose to include their name, website, or Instagram (if provided) so interested visitors can reach out directly. This is not guaranteed, but Frame 1A will do its best to facilitate connections when possible. Participants’ personal phone numbers will not be shared.

Artist information may also be included on the back of displayed work.

Installation sessions are reserved for selected artists because the space is small. Public viewing on August 22 will begin after the installation is complete.

The opening time will be announced once the artist schedule and number of installation sessions are finalized.

The exhibition closes on September 5, 2026, with an optional print swap. Artists who participate will exchange their displayed print for another participating artist’s work.

Artists who do not join the swap must collect their work by 4:00 p.m. on September 5. Frame 1A will close afterward to prepare for its next exhibition and cannot store unclaimed work.

Contact Frame 1A before the closing event. You may join the print swap if final arrangements allow. Participation is completely optional, and you may withdraw at any time before the swap begins. Once the swap starts, changes may no longer be possible.

Frame 1A will take reasonable care of all work while it is in the gallery. Because this is a temporary, artist-installed exhibition and optional print swap, participants are responsible for their own work, and Frame 1A cannot guarantee against accidental damage, loss or theft.

Frame 1A has three stairs at the entrance and is not wheelchair accessible. There is also no restroom on the premises.

If you are selected and need an access accommodation to participate, please contact us in advance. We will work with you to arrange delivery, placement and installation of your photograph whenever possible. Images of the completed exhibition will also be posted on the Frame 1A website.

No. There is no restroom available on the premises. Please plan accordingly before your installation time or visit.

Yes. Registration and admission are free, but optional donations help Frame 1A cover exhibition materials and continue offering community photography programs. Donations are appreciated but are not required to participate or attend.

By participating, artists confirm that they created the submitted work or have permission to exhibit it, and that displaying the work will not violate another person’s copyright, privacy or other rights.

Copyright remains with the artist. Participation does not transfer ownership or copyright to Frame 1A.

Frame 1A may photograph or record the installation, exhibition, participating artists and displayed work. Artists grant Frame 1A nonexclusive permission to use this documentation for the gallery’s website, social media, press, archives and promotion of this event or future Frame 1A programming. Artist credit will be included when reasonably possible.

Frame 1A will take reasonable care of all work but cannot guarantee against accidental damage, loss or theft. Artists are responsible for collecting or exchanging their work according to the closing-day instructions.

Participation is voluntary, and no payment, prize or sale is guaranteed.
