About

The Alameda Photographic Society has been part of Alameda’s photographic life for more than eight decades. Its Annual Member Exhibition brings that long history into the room through work made by photographers active in the society today. The photographs span different subjects, approaches, and levels of experience, reflecting the role photographic societies have long played as places where people gather around images, learn from one another, test ideas, and continue looking.

At Frame 1A, the exhibition is not only an opportunity to show current work. It is also a recognition of continuity: generations of photographers meeting, making pictures, sharing knowledge, and sustaining a local photographic culture over time.

About Alameda Photographic Society

The Alameda Photographic Society was founded in 1940 and has served photographers in Alameda for more than 85 years.

The society supports photographic practice through regular image sharing, competitions, programs, field trips, seminars, and opportunities for members to study and discuss photography together. APS is affiliated with the Northern California Council of Camera Clubs and the Photographic Society of America.

Its continued presence represents a form of photographic history that can be easy to overlook: not only the history of celebrated individual photographers or major institutions, but the quieter history of people gathering regularly to make, discuss, and sustain a culture around photographs.
